Tips and Advice for Fitness Instructors

Here are Professional Fitness’ top tips for Personal Trainers looking for insurance protection:

  • Check that your cover is appropriate to what you teach. Does your insurance cover you for all the activities you are qualified to teach? Professional Fitness will add new qualifications to your policy without increasing your premium to make sure you are fully covered at all times.
  • Check public liability insurance is written on an ‘occurrence basis’ not ‘claims made’. So if you decide to change your career and consequently cancel your insurance you will still be protected if a claim is made against you for an incident that took place whilst you were still instructing.
  • If you teach at a leisure centre or sports centre who is responsible for ensuring insurance cover is in place?  Don’t get caught out – check if it’s you or the centre.
  • Personal Accident can be a valuable benefit at a small additional cost. Check to see if the insurer can offer this too.
    • If you teach abroad does your insurance provide this cover? Professional Fitness can cover you for teaching abroad providing the period is less than 6 months (UK jurisdiction excluding USA and Canada). This does not apply to British citizen’s that reside abroad. Cover is only valid for residents in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands or at valid BFPO addresses.
